🏔️ What Is the Taoist Academy?
The Taoist Academy is a 7-day immersive retreat designed for those who wish to deepen their connection to Taoist culture, practice traditional disciplines, and restore balance to body and mind. It is not a sightseeing tour, but a journey inward—a chance to study directly with a Taoist master, to live simply, and to experience the Dao in the rhythm of daily life.
The retreat is offered four times a year, in January, April, July, and October. Each session accommodates a maximum of 20 participants and opens with a minimum of 3—a small-group setting that ensures personal attention and guidance.
Three Core Pillars: Dao · Talisman · Nourishment
The curriculum is organized around three interconnected pillars of Taoist tradition:
I. Dao (Philosophy & Classics)
Dao is the root from which all practices grow. Over the seven days, participants will explore the essential teachings of the Tao Te Ching, Taoist cosmology and views on life, and the ways in which core principles like “living in accordance with the Dao” and “effortless action” manifest in daily practice. This is not a lecture series—it is an embodied study, where classical wisdom is woven into the rhythm of each day—walking, sitting, eating, resting—so that the Dao takes root not in the mind alone, but in the body itself.
II. Talisman (Calligraphy & Energy Writing)
Talisman calligraphy is an integral part of Taoist tradition, with a history and cultural depth that have long been preserved within the lineage of Taoist masters. During the retreat, participants will learn about the origins, classifications, and functions of talismans, as well as the traditional protocols and taboos associated with their creation. Under the guidance of a Taoist master, each participant will have the opportunity to write talismans by hand—not merely as a calligraphic exercise, but as a practice of focusing the mind and channeling intention through the brush. Each stroke is a quiet conversation between the heart and the Dao.
III. Nourishment (Qigong, Meditation & Traditional Wisdom)
Taoist nourishment practices are rooted in the principle of living in harmony with the natural rhythms of the body and the seasons. Over the seven days, participants will engage in:
-
Qigong & Daoyin – Traditional moving practices such as Baduanjin (Eight Brocades) and breathwork to stretch and loosen the body, and harmonize qi
-
Meditation & Sitting – Stillness practices to quiet the mind, settle the spirit, and cultivate inner awareness
-
Traditional Health Wisdom – Taoist teachings on the nature of life, the rhythms of the body, and the art of inner cultivation
Each day follows the natural rhythm of light and dark—morning qigong to awaken the body, daytime study and practice, evening meditation to settle the mind, and quiet rest to close the day. Over the course of seven days, the use of phones and external distractions naturally fades—not because it is forbidden, but because the practice itself draws your attention inward.
🧘 Life at the Retreat
The retreat is all-inclusive: teachings, accommodation, meals, and activities. Participants stay in a quiet, natural setting, with three daily vegetarian meals. A Taoist master provides hands-on, in-person instruction throughout. Each day begins with morning practice and ends with an evening session or quiet reflection. One day during the week is set aside for rest and integration—a day of sitting meditation, reading, and walking in nature, allowing body and mind to fully absorb the practices.
This is not an intensive course to be crammed into seven days. It is a gentle process of settling—of allowing the practices to sink into the body, the teachings to settle in the heart, and the self to return, slowly and naturally, to a state of greater ease and presence.

🌱 A Note on Tradition
In Taoist tradition, the number seven carries deep significance—it is the number of the celestial Dipper, the rhythm of the heavenly cycle. A seven-day retreat is neither too short nor too long: it is just enough time for the body and mind to complete a transition from agitation to stillness, from noise to clarity. Over these seven days, the Dao reveals itself in the rising and setting of the sun; the talisman takes form at the meeting point of brush and intention; nourishment unfolds with each breath, each step, each moment of quiet presence. This is not a course to be completed, but a return—to the body‘s natural rhythm, to the mind’s natural clarity, to the simple, enduring presence of living in harmony with the Dao.
